New Germany's 125th anniversary
With a population of 372 at the last census, New Germany wouldn’t be classified as “big” unless, of course, one is referring to the magnitude of its 125th anniversary preparations.
More than 30 volunteers met monthly at New Germany City Hall from 2010 until the festival, making plans for the town’s quasquicentennial celebration, July 13-15, 2012.
Events included the lighting of a special Memory Tree (right), as well as live music, a history display, softball tournament, 5K adult and children’s run, craft fair, children’s activities, car show, tractor show, fireworks, parade, and more.
Many members of the community worked together to plan New Germany’s 125th anniversary celebration. Those who have participated include front Dan Ruschmeier, Jeff Kohls, David Latzig, and Godger Kirchhoff; second row Krista Goede, Stacy Henning, Jillanne Paehlke, Carolyn Effertz, Marie Latzig, Shirley Jaeger, Genoa Henning, , and David Effertz; back Harold Latzig, Dennis Henning, Steve VanLith, Jim Paul, John Eberle, Marlin Kohls, Gerald Roepke, Jim Heimerl, Alvin Hedtke, Jim Borka, Eric Roepke, Pete Pederson, and Bruce Johnson.
